For the first time in the history of the Ghent Marathon, the course of the Sofico Ghent Marathon and Sofico Ghent Half Marathon will take in the art-historic city centre of Ghent!
After the first kilometre along the Watersportbaan, we will dive straight into the city centre via the Nieuwewandeling (Ghent prison), along the most famous Ghent historic buildings, one of the most renowned Ghent pubs: the Hotsy Totsy and St Michael's Bridge with its stunning view over the Ghent skyline punctuated by St Nicholas Church, the Belfry and St Bavo's Cathedral. A passage through the Ghelamco Arena adds a nice little extra novelty before the participants of the longest distance continue their run along the Lys and discover the budding green open spaces of Sint-Denijs-Westrem and Afsnee. As tradition dictates, we finish with a warm welcome and the applause of many supporters in the impressive Topsporthal where every participant will receive a unique Jan van Eyck medal, to mark the Jan van Eyck theme year 2020. A unique occasion for Ghent and a top experience for participants as part of the festivities of the Jan van Eyck year 2020!
Rent a tent in the unique and spectacular Topsporthal as a meeting point for your runners and supporters.
