On Sunday 27 October the Gent Marathon was a great success. Thousands of runners had a fun autumn afternoon in the Flemish city.

Around 5,000 participants signed up for one of the many distances Gent Marathon, which departed from the Blaarmeersen in Ghent.

The marathon was won by Norwegian Per Christian Eggen Mjøs, a student of the Artevelde university college in Ghent. He set a time of 2:36:59. Sven Maes and Sebastian Mahia joined him on the podium. In the women's event the victory went to Belgian Marie Coosemans (3:22:11) ahead of Leentje Hindryckx and Antoinette Doran.

The 5 km race was won by Ruben Dhondt (18:10) and Oona Goyvaerts (20:57) respectively. The 10 km event went to Orbai Testalem (32:10) and Elien De Groote (41:38).

The winners crossed the line at the finish inside the Topsporthal, welcomed by lots of applause from the many supporters.

Next season the Ghent Marathon will get a new date on the running calendar and take place on 29 March 2020. The organisers are working on an all-new course which will run through the historic city centre of Ghent for the first time in the event's history. Signing up is possible from Monday 28 October 2019!
