It looks like Covid-19 will continue to be part of our society for a while longer. But we, the organisers, continue to have a positive outlook on the future and we have managed to devise a revised and safe format for the 2021 Sofico Ghent Marathon.
- Several running dates between 20/03 and 18/04
- Free start between 8:30 and 11am (max. 90 runners per start wave)
- The entire course is signposted and officially measured with timings
- The website will show daily and overall rankings
For the course we are returning once more to the breath-taking and green original course along the Oude Leie, through De Assels, the magnificent Parkbos, the Zeven Dreven and Blaarmeersen. We are reserving the updated city course for the 2022 edition.
Loads of runners have been training hard over the last months. There is a great deal of enthusiasm and a strong urge to run. A great hunger for a physical event. We want to feed that hunger by offering this revised, safe format. A large-scale event in 1 day is no longer realistic nor is it a desirable scenario for many participants. That is why we are now opting for this alternative scenario as a positive and hopeful rush ahead.
Participants who had already registered will receive a personal email inviting them to select a new date and time slot. If you are unable to participate on any of these spring dates, your registration will automatically be transferred to the 2022 edition.
Registration for any remaining places will open on Monday 18th January.
What if the event cannot go ahead this spring after all? Registrations will remain valid and will automatically be transferred to the new date / 2022 edition.
We hope together with you that the applicable corona measures will be favourable for us and that we will be able to welcome you all at the start.
Keep exercising and stay safe.
